David James
Goulette
David James
Goulette,
loving son, brother and father, passed away unexpectedly on December 30, 2015
at his home in Buckeye, AZ.
Dave was born the son of the late Melvin (Moose)
and Betty
Goulette on February 1, 1953 in Deposit. He graduated from Deposit
Central School, class of 1970. While attending school, Dave was a member
of the Varsity Wrestling Team.
Following graduation, Dave decided to enlist in the
United
States Marine Corps where he proudly served his country from 1972-1976.
He served two terms over-seas and completed Basic Electrician Training,
received an expert Marksman’s Award, Good Conduct Medal and National Defense
Service Medal. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1976 holding the rank of
Sergeant. Dave was proud to have served his country and throughout his
lifetime you would almost always see him proudly wearing his Marine Corps
cap.
Following his discharge, Dave returned to his home
town where
his Mom and family were. He proceeded to obtain his Class 1 Drivers License and
became a professional truck driver, which he made his career all of his life.
In the early 1980s, Dave decided to join his brothers
in AZ,
where he lived for the majority of his life. He quickly found a good job
hauling heavy equipment and settled in. That is where he started to acquire a
passion for the racing industry. He and his brothers went to the races often.
That is where he met and married Terrie Foster in 1991. Not only did he fall in
love with Terrie, but he fell in love with her children and they loved him in
return. Very soon after, they became a racing family.
Dave, along with his sons, began building race cars
and the
whole family headed to Canyon Speedway, Manzanita Raceway and Barrona in CA. These
were the best years of his life. Dave raced for many years and he lived long
enough to see his sons, Jay and John, grow up and build their own cars and race
themselves while he watched with pride. Dave was also very proud of his son,
Jacob, who is currently serving with the US Marine Corps, and his beautiful
daughter, Tamara, who is an awesome mom and wife. One of Dave’s proudest days
was walking his little girl down the aisle as a proud Dad.
He was a family man who had a strong, loving relationship
with
his Mom, and his brothers and sisters also. Dave always found time to spend
with everyone and will be missed by many people.
Surviving Dave are his children: James, Jacob,
John,
Tamara and Stacey; ten grandchildren, and his siblings: Ann, Teresa, Phil,
Joel, Sue and Mike and their families. Last but not least, his little
rescue dog, Dude, who traveled with Dave and made him a great companion for
many years. Dude is now living with family in NY where he is continued to
be loved and cared for.

Raymond McKay Hathaway |
|
Raymond
McKay Hathaway Aug. 16, 1923 - Feb. 28, 2015 Raymond
McKay “Kay” Hathaway piloted out on his last flight on Saturday,
February 28, 2015, from his home in Deposit, NY, where he had lived
since 1951. He was on this earth for 91 years, 6 months and 12 days.
When asked how he was doing, his usual response was “almost perfect”,
and to all who knew him, he was. He
was born in Thompson, PA, to Raymond H. and Anna (Harpur) Hathaway, who
both predeceased him. He enjoyed a lively childhood in Windsor, NY,
graduating from Windsor High School in 1941. After
high school he worked for a cream separator business in Bainbridge
then, for Scintilla in Sidney, until World War II broke out. He then
joined the Army Air Corp, and became a pilot and instructor, training
other pilots to fly the B24 bomber. After the war ended, he joined the
Air Force Reserve, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He loved
flying. On one recent occasion in the hospital, a technician asked him
if he liked to fly. He replied, “It is the second best feeling I know.” After
the war, he went to work as a bank teller for the Windsor Bank, and
then decided to go on to college. He graduated in 1950 from SUNY Oswego,
with a B.S. degree in Industrial Arts Education. During this time he
met and fell in love with a young woman (Madelyn C. Basso) from
Susquehanna, PA. They married in September 1950, and were happily
married for 38 years. She predeceased him on December 10, 1988. He
is survived by his five children, nine grandchildren, and one great
grandchild: Frederick and (Chris) Oneonta, NY; John and (Phyllis),
children (Rachel and husband Cameron Cogburn, Ethan and Mike), Delmar,
NY; Stephen and (Leslie), children (Sarah and Ross) Ithaca, NY; Peter
and (Lori), children (Lucas and partner Amanda and his
great-granddaughter Avery, and Jordan), Deposit; and Susan and (Mark)
Bretscher, children (Christine and Stephen), Binghamton. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters and their spouses:
Clyde and (Mary) Hathaway, Betty and (Joe) Mikulas, Robert and (Helen)
Hathaway, and Dorothy and (Page Norton); his in-laws Fred P. and Madelyn
Basso, whom he greatly loved; and sister and brothers-in-law, Catherine
and (Bob) Walker, and Edmond Ahearn, all from Susquehanna, PA. He
is survived by his sister-in-law Mary (Basso) Ahearn, Susquehanna, PA
and cousin Elbert Van Horn, East Windsor, NY, and by many nieces and
nephews. In addition, he was commonly known as “Great Uncle Ray” to his
many great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by great friends,
Bill West (college classmate), Bill White and Mychajlo Urban. He knew the love of family, friends and several great dogs, particularly Ginger and Sheba and one cat Linus. He
served on the Village of Deposit Board for many years, during the
building of the original sewage treatment plant; on the Deposit Free
Library Board for 40 years; and as an assistant Boy Scout Troop Master
for Troop 69. He truly loved life,
finding great pleasure in reading, gardening, boating his 34' Marine
Trader “Tackless” on Cayuga Lake, canoeing on the Delaware, making maple
syrup, woodworking, camping & hiking in the Adirondacks, teaching,
history, cooking & eating fine food with either a good martini, a
glass of wine or a beer, and spending time with his family and friends.
He had an outstanding sense of humor. He
taught industrial arts and driver education at Deposit Central School
for 30 years, and despite that received two speeding tickets, the first
in 1951 and the second in 2011. He was
the oldest Deposit retired teacher at the time of his death. He will be

Paul Ludwig George Oswald |

Paul
Ludwig George Oswald
Paul, 76, peacefully
passed away
surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, February 27, 2015.
Paul is survived
by his wife of 45
years: Lois (Birdsall) Oswald of Conklin, NY; daughter: Marie Karasin and her
husband Alan of Ithaca, NY; son: Paul Oswald and his wife Asako Kohno Oswald of
Toyko, Japan; his brother: George “Ozzie” Oswald and his wife Rose of Windsor,
NY; his brother: Adrian “Mitch” Miller and his wife Diane of Deposit, NY; three
beautiful granddaughters: Allison Karasin, Mariana Karasin and Erica Kohno
Oswald; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. His sisters Agnes
Kellner of Pine Bush, NY, and Genevieve Weitz of East Brunswick, NJ predeceased
him.
The son of the
late Ludwig Oswald
and Elizabeth Kaiser Oswald, he was born on July 16, 1938 in Brooklyn, NY. The
family moved in 1952 to the Farm on Farnham Road, Deposit NY. He was a graduate
of Deposit High School and Broome Community College with an electrical
engineering degree and later studied at Syracuse University.
He was drafted
into the Army and
served in Vietnam as a consultant in radar technology. He worked as an
electrical engineer at Burroughs, GE and Lockheed Electronics and Lockheed
Sanders and retired in 1993.
Paul was able
to visit all 50 states
and work in many countries such as Germany, Korea, Panama and Israel.
Paul was a man
of many talents. He
wrestled in high school and studied judo in Vietnam achieving a brown belt.
Paul was a counselor working with inmates in the Philadelphia prison system,
teaching them to make better decisions when they were released. He loved music,
especially Bluegrass & folk music and played guitar with the Java Joe Jammers
in Binghamton, NY. He restored a Jaguar XKE, rode a Harley, and loved working
with his tractors and backhoe.
He created ponds
so deer could have
a water source without having to cross the road to get to the river and once
planted a quarter mile of pumpkins for fun. Paul traveled the United States
pulling his “silver blob” trailer behind his car during his bachelor consulting
days. This gave him the idea to become a mobile home park owner. He bought
Pride Manor Mobile Home Park in Conklin, NY, in 1979 and managed it until 2006.
During this time
he and the family
lived in NJ where he worked weekdays at Picatinny Arsenal. He built play areas
and a shallow pond for winter ice-skating, providing skates for the kids. Every
year, he would host a Christmas party for the children of the Park at a local
skating rink. Since 2001, Paul enjoyed winters in Palm Coast, Florida, his
second home. He chose this location because of the salt-water canals and to be
close to Daytona where he could ride his Harley during Bike Week.
Taking friends
for boat rides on the
St. Johns River to see alligators “up close” was always a thrill. He loved
family and enjoyed spending time with relatives throughout the US and Germany.
